Letter of Recommendation for Editing: Dakota Pierce
In January of 2020, two co-authors reached out via BYU faculty newsletter and asked for volunteer editors. I accepted and helped edit the Introduction--Chapter 4, and the beginning of Chapter 7, of "How To Be a Powerful Modern-Day Missionary." I helped out as a jack of all trades: copyediting, grammar, terminal punctuation, formatting, consistency (with italics, boldface, etc), clarity, summarizing, source-checking, and coordinating with other volunteer editors and the authors. Not only did I learn how to improve prose while staying true to authorial intent, but I also developed a skill set for working with other editors remotely on large projects. I asked Dakota, one of the co-authors, to write this Letter of Recommendation, under which I have included a link to the final product.

Calvin did an excellent job both line and copy editing my book “How To Be a Powerful Modern-day Missionary” to be published by Cedar Fort, Inc. in May 2020. His edits were insightful and thought provoking as well as structured. I found his comments easy to follow, clearly stated and well thought out.
Moreover, his grammar was excellent and he really helped me establish my voice in my writing. He took into account the audience and the tone that I had established throughout my manuscript, helping me to build upon that. He made me feel validated as a writer but also made me want to improve. I would highly recommend him as both a line and copy editor.
